Cape May Point NJ Real Estate Information
Cape May Point Home of the Cape May Light House
Cape May Point has the distinction of being one of the smallest boroughs in NJ. What it lacks in size it makes up for in historical significance complete with nationally recognized landmarks. Usually, I like to talk about housing appreciation, but Cape may point only has 164 households and even fewer houses.

Median Home Value $826,000 according to “Best Places”. The median home value in Cape May County is $322,500. Cape May Point is separated from the rest of Cape may by Cape May Point state park and the 606 and 629. It’s separation lends to the exclusive feel and property value is 3x higher than homes a few miles away.
The “Point” as it is referred to locally has two prominent features in the city…and of course, a sunken ship which is technically outside city limits.
The Cape May Lighthouse[NB1] is located within the Cape May Point State Park[NB2] which is the second point of interest. The park is protected wetlands. Cape May State Park is one of the best places in the country to view the fall migration. Birding is a major tourist attraction. The park which is 235 acres contains three trails and has a year round park ranger.
In 1926 one of the most famous concrete ships in the U.S. was purchased by Colonel Jesse Rosenfeld to be used as a ferry dock. The plan which involved two more concrete ships and a ferry boat never came to fruition. Mother nature intervened. On June 8th, 1926 a storm hit. The ship broke free of her moorings and ran aground at Sunset Beach. There she lies to this very day.
The Cape May lighthouse was built in 1823. Here are pictures from 1933 and 2015. Not much has changed.

Living in Cape May Point New Jersey
Cape May Point is considered the “exclusive” part of Cape May County. The cost of living and convenience are both impacted. It’s only a few miles to West Cape May and convenient shopping but conveniently is dependent on the time of year. The summer months see the population of our little seaside community skyrocket. Very little is convenient. The cost of living is higher than the national average throughout ALL of Cape May and slightly higher still on the point.
Having said that the food, people, and culture are all pretty amazing in Cape May. The summer months see tons of activities. The slight separation of the point provides just enough distance not to be impacted by the many events OR to take the short drive over and participate.
