The cities name is steeped in history. Simplified it was named after a local wildflower. Like most of the Cape may be this is a coastal city that fills up with tourists during the summer seasons. Wildwoods history is a little richer than most of the boroughs in Cape May County. One of my favorite pages that will give the curious a really interesting look at the history of Wildwood can be found on “The Boardwalk Blog.”
Wildwood was originally called “Angelsea.” In 1905 the area was purchased by investors. Angelsea with some surrounding beaches were incorporated into a sister community called “The Wildwoods.” The group of cities was Wildwood City, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, And Wildwood Crest.
In more recent history the area was famous for rock and roll. In the 1960’s Chubby Checkers debuted his version of “The Twist”. Most likely following in the Footsteps of Bill Haley and his Comets who debuted “Rock around the Clock” at the HofBrau Hotel in Wildwood.
North Wildwood Points of Interest
Trip advisor is a good resource for restaurants and hotels.
Here are a few other points of interest I strongly think visitors and locals alike should visit. Some of these are located in Wildwood which is just 5-10 minutes distant from most point’s in “North Wildwood”.
Wildwoods Shore Resort Historic District – Some of the best representations of modern architecture still open to the public the shore district is filled with hotels and motels built in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
The Wildwoods Boardwalk The boardwalk is famous worldwide though mostly the tourists that visit are east coasters. If you haven’t been a t least once you should put this on your “Tourism to do” list.
Morey's Piers & Beachfront Water Parks – Just like it sounds. Family destination.
What surrounds Wildwood NJ?
Not much has changed in the last 80 years. Wildwood is still a “set” of communities formally referred to as boroughs. They are The Wildwoods, West WildWood,Grassy Sound, and North Wildwood[NB2] .
